Olgas, snakes and emus...

29 9 10

Happy Birthday Craig! A Year older than me again! We drove to The Olgas which I haven't mastered the traditional name for yet. Went for a great walk through the Valley of the Winds; no rude comments thanks! Creeks running through, once again from what we understand, quite uncommon which made our walk truly spectacular. Kai and I (Sonia) were walking ahead and almost walked on a pretty scary snake, do I need to mention it was only 40 cm long! Drove back to Uluru and had lunch looking out on the rock, then drove back to Curtin Springs for another Camp Oven; could get used to this! Our resident emu came through the camp looking for food. Kids traveling well.

A change of State

28 9 10

We had a game of "Mark's up" as we drove into the Northern Territory. After kicking the fotball from one State to the next we made our way "slowly" to Curtin Springs. Here we dropped off "Charlie" the caravan and drove onto Uluru to watch the sunset. In Cloe's journal she calls it " a big rock" and yes, it was. Truly amazing especially driving right up to it and feeling quite insignificant in comparison.

Our first camp oven meal

Moving onward and upward... Had morning tea and Cadney Homestead; it was your one stop shop. You got petrol, had a cuppa, stay overnight or even play the pokies..! Drove on to Agnes Creek rest area and had our first night 'roughing it' (as much as you can in a caravan with a toilet and shower!) Had a fire and camp oven tea with toasted marshmellows under an amazing star studded sky. I forget so easily what the sky looks like at night when you are out of the city; we have an amazing Creator.

Some Opal we found yesterday...we wish!

Noodling at Coober Pedy

26 9 10
Went on Coober Pedy tour, learnt about opals dugouts etc. When the first "white men" were looking for opals and dug holes in the sides of hills, our indigenous friends called the place Coober Pedy, which means " White man's burrows". Did some Noodling; didn't find enough to pay for the holiday but sure was fun.

Space ship from the movie "Pitch Black".

on our way sorry for the delay

Apologies for the delay, when you read on, you will understand why we are a week behind schedule, including "blogging".

Commentary by Sonia.

Well an early start, 5.00am and we're on the road....Happy traveling so far but as we get closer to Port Augusta the car "Lola" starts to overheat. Hoping its nothing major but if we stick to 80km we can limp along. See beautiful wild flowers along the way. As it has been so wet the desert is quite green. Cloe keeps asking where is the desert? Lunch at Missile Park Woomera and we reach Cooper Pedy at 7pm.
